Restauracija

Restauracija odnosno konzervacija se odnosi na obnavljanje nekog umetničkog dela u bolje stanje. Ovo se na primer može odnositi na popravljanje ili preslikavanje neke umetničke slike kako bi izgledala kao nova ili popravljanje neke skulpture ili vaze.

Definicija

Tradicionalna definicija uloge restauratora- konzervatora uključuje pregled, konzervaciju i očuvanje kulturne baštine korištenjem bilo koje metode koja se dokazala delotvornom u održavanju predmeta u stanju što bližem izvornom što je duže moguće.

Danas je ta definicija međutim proširena i više bi je mogli opisati kao etično upravljanje kulturnim dobrom.

Konzervator primjenjuje jednostavne etičke elemente, kao što su:

• Načelo minimalne intervencije,
• Korištenje metoda i materijala usmerenih ka reverzibilnosti, kako bi smanjili mogućnost problema kod budućeg tretmana, istraživanja i korištenja.
• Temeljno dokumentiranje svih preuzetih postupaka

Konzervator mora uzeti u obzir i mišljenje trećg lica te svoju profesionalnu ekspertizu s njim uskladiti.
