Hanoj (vij. Thành Phố Hà Nội, kin. 河内) je glavni grad Vijetnama. Po podacima iz 2008. imao je 6,23 miliona stanovnika, nna površini od 3.358,6 km2 (1.296,8 sq mi).[5][6][4]
Grad se nalazi u plodnoj delti Crvene reke, na oko 100 km od njenog ušća u Tonkinški zaliv. Klima u Hanoju je suptropsko-monsunska sa vlažnim i vrućim letima i toplim i suvim zimama. Osam meseci godišnje je kišovito, a četiri meseca su sušna.
Jedan je od najstarijih gradova jugoistočne Azije, osnovan 1010. pod imenom Tang Long (Thăng Long - zmaj koji se uzdiže). Godine 1802. prestonica Vijetnama je prebačena u grad Hue, ali je Hanoj ostao dominantan centar severa zemlje. Od 1831. nosi današnje ime u značenju grad između reka, mada je i staro u nezvaničnoj upotrebi. Hanoj je od 1883. do 1945. bio je upravljački centar francuske kolonije Francuska Indokina. Glavni je grad ujedinjenog Vijetnama od 1976. Pre toga je bio prestonica Severnog Vijetnama (od 1954).
Kroz dugu istoriju Hanoj je uvek bio kulturni centar Vijetnama. Tokom Vijetnamskog rata Amerikanci su 1972. bombardovali Hanoj i uništili 25% grada. U gradu danas postoji više od 600 pagoda i hramova.
