Hydatellaceae je mala familija skrivenosemenica, koja obuhvata 1 rod sa 14 vrsta vodenih biljaka^[2]. Areal rasprostranjenja obuhvata zapadne delove Indije, Australiju i Novi Zeland^[3].

Na osnovu tradicionalnih morfoloških istraživanja, kao i prema klasifikacionoj shemi APG II (2003), familija je spadala u monokotiledoni red Poales. Novija molekularna filogenetska istraživanja, praćena embriološkim i revidiranim morfološkim istraživanjima^[4]^[5], ukazala su na pripadnost redu Nymphaeales^[1], koji leži u bazi filogenetskog stabla skrivenosemenica.
