Stadion (merna jedinica)
Stadion (grčki: σταδιον; latinski: stadium), je drevna grčka jedinica dužine, zasnovana na dužini tipičnog sportskog stadiona tog vremena (oko 600 grčkih stopa).
Tokom srednjeg veka i modernog doba ova reč je korišćena i kao sinonim za furlong, britansku i američki jedinicu za rastojanje.[1]
Opšta razmatranja[uredi | uredi izvor]
Prema Herodotu, jedan stadion je bio jednak mernoj jedinici 600 grčkih stopa (latinski pous). Međutim, kako je dužina stopa varirala u različitim delovima grčkog sveta, stvarna dužina stadiona je različita, prema različitih hipotetičkih stavova stotinama godina unazad.[2][3][4] U tom smislo predložene su razne hipotetičke ekvivalentne dužine, a neke su imenovane.[5][6]

Među prvima služeći se empirijskim metodam određivanja dužine stadiona, Lev Vasiljević Firsov, je uporedio 81 rastojanja koje su dali Eratosten (276. p. n. e. — 194. p. n. e.) i Strabon (64. p. n. e. — 24. n. e.) sa rastojanjem dobijeno merenjem pravolinijske distance savremenim metodama, i tako dobio prosečni rezultat za stadion, od oko 157,7 m (172,5 yd).[7]

Značaj nejednakosti mera za stadion, prilikom njihovog korišćenja može uticati na tumačenje drevnih tekstova. Na primer, greška u izračunavanju obima Zemlje od strane Eratostena,[9] ili Posejdonija zavisi od toga koja je pozicija odabrana kao odgovarajuća.
