Istorija predmeta Im Schildhaupt sind Rot und Silber der Grafschaft Vianden (L) zugrunde gelegt.Die vier Zinnen beziehen sich auf die Ortsteile Berkoth, Markstein, Heinischseifen und Burscheid. Die sich nach unten anschließende Dreiteilung des Schildes bringt auf der rechten Flanke einen silbernen Pfeil auf grünem Feld. Dieser Pfeil gilt als Attribut des Schutzpatrons Sebastian.Im Herzpfahl ist eine grüne Birke auf Silbergrund dargestellt.Der Namenszug Berkoth geht auf Birken und auf Berg(k) zurück. In der linken Flanke findet sich auf grünem Feld eine Axt; sie nimmt Bezug auf das Roden von Wäldern – im Falle Berkoth sind es Birken
