U nekim vidovima upotrebe on se smatra južnim delom Istočnopacifičkog grebena, uglavnom južno od Čelindžerske zone preloma[4] i proteže se do Makvorskog trojnog čvora[5][6][7] južno od Novog Zelanda.[8]
Luisvilski greben
Prostire se na 4.300 km sever-zapad od Pacifičko-Antarktičkog grebena do podmorske planine Osborn na spoju Tonga i Kermadeka.[9] To je dugačak niz podmorskih planina zvanih Luisvilski greben, koji je najduži takav lanac na Tihom okeanu,[10] i za koji se misli da je nastao od Tihookeanske ploče koja je nadišla preko dugovečnog centra rastopljene magme zvanog žarište Luisvil.
