Harold Adams Inis (5. novembar 1894 - 8. novembar 1952) kanadski profesor političke ekonomije Univerziteta u Torontu i autor seminalnih radova na polju medija, teorije komunikacije i kanadske ekonomske istorije.[1]
Inisovi spisi na polju komunikacije istražuju ulogu medija u oblikovanju kulture i razvitka civilizacije.[2] Raspravljao je, na primjer, da je balans između govornih i pisanih formi komunikacije doprinjeo cvijetanju grčke civilizacije u 5. vijeku p. n. e.[3]
Kao rukovodilac odsjeka za političku ekonomiju Univerziteta u Torontu, radio je na stvaranju kanadskog naučnog kadra, tako da se univerzitet ne mora više oslanjati na britanske ili američke profesore koji nisu upoznati sa kanadskom istorijom i kulturom.[4] Inis je takođe pokušao da odbrani univerzitete od političkih i ekonomskih pritisaka i uticaja. Vjerovao je da nezavisni univerziteti djeluju kao centar kritičke misli i da su oni esencija preživljavanja Zapadne civilizacije.[5]
