Dr Lorens Sidni Tompson (1916—1986) radio je kao direktor biblioteka na Univerzitetu u Kentakiju i bio je član departmenta za klasične studije. Specijalizovao se u polju štamparstva i publikacija. Dr Tompson je takođe istraživao kataloške materijale, u čestom kontaktu sa evropskim kolegama.

Bio je dugogodišnji direktor Biblioteke „Margaret I. King” pri Univerzitetu u Kentakiju (1948—1963).

Najpoznatiji rad mu je iz oblasti antropodermičkog knjigovezstva — prakse poveza knjige u materijale od ljudske kože.
