I just made a correction to de:Donaulimes and en:Danubian Limes, and I was wondering whether a similar mistake appears also on the Serbian page Дунавски лимес: The sentence "Због мочварне и разуђене обале Дунава, био је обезбеђен бројним легијским логорима и кастелима" in the second paragraph is google-translated to "Due to the swampy and ravaged Danube coast, it was provided with numerous legionary camps and castles". I have a problem with the initial word "Због" ("because of"): this expresses that the "swampy coast of the Danube" is the reason for the "camps and castles" along the Danubian Limes. This is clearly logically wrong in two aspects:
- If one compares the Danubian Limes to other borders of the Roman Empire it is clear that "camps and castles" existed along the entire border of the Empire. Hence, the situation at the Danube should not be called the reason for these castles.
- On the other side, if one compares the Danubian Limes in particular with en:Hadrian's Wall, the en:Antonine Wall, or the en:Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes, these other borders were fortified with a wall or rampart (I do not know whether "зид" or "бедем" are more appropriate words in Serbian). The situation at the Danube river, which you could not easily cross, was the reason that no such wall or rampart existed along the Danubian Limes.
