Daglas Adams (engl. Douglas Noël Adams; Kembridž, 11. mart 1952 — Santa Barbara, 11. maj 2001) je bio britanski radio-dramaturg i pisac najpoznatiji po serijalu knjiga Autostoperski vodič kroz galaksiju. Za njegovog života, ovaj serijal je bio prodan u više od petnaest miliona primeraka.

Adams je bio zagovornik zaštite životne sredine i očuvanja, zaljubljenik u brze automobile, tehnološke inovacije i Epl Mekintoš, i samoproglašeni „radikalni ateista“.

Obrazovanje i rani rad

Adams je rođen u Kembridžu i obrazovan u Brentvud školi u Eseksu, gde se sprijateljio s Grifom Džonsom. Adams je pohađao Koledž Svetog Jovana, gde je 1974. godine diplomirao englesku književnost.

Neki od njegovih ranih radova su prikazani na televiziji Bi-Bi-Si 2 1974. godine. Uskoro ga je „otkrio“ Grejam Čepmen iz Monti Pajtona. Adams je napisao jedan od skečeva u 45. epizodi Letećeg cirkusa.

Adamsov rani rad na radiju uključuje skečeve u programima Berkis Vej i Njuz Hadlajns, a i bio je pisac jedne epizode programa Doktor on d gou.

Autostoperski vodič kroz galaksiju

Prema Adamsu, ideja za Autostoperski vodič kroz galaksiju je nastala kada je pijan ležao u polju u Inzbruku u Austriji, gledajući zvezde. Lutao je noseći knjigu Vodič kroz Evropu za autostopere kada je naišao na grad gde niko nije pričao za njega razumljiv jezik. Kada se napio i otišao u polje da spava, bio je inspirisan nemogućnošću da komunicira sa ljudima iz tog grada.

Autostoperski vodič kroz galaksiju je originalno nastao kao šestodelna radio serija na Bi-Bi-Si Radiju 4 1978. godine. Radio serija je bila osnova za seriju knjiga, koja je postala poznata kao „trilogija u pet nastavaka“, a kasnije i TV seriju.
