Normalan broj
U matematici, normalan broj je realan broj čiji je beskonačan niz cifara u bilo kojoj pozitivnoj celobrojnoj brojevnoj osnovi b[1] distribuiran uniformno u smislu da svaka od b cifara ima istu asimptotsku gustinu 1/b. To takođe znači da se svih mogućih b2 parova cifara javlja sa jednakom verovatnoćom gustine b−2, svih b3 trojki cifara se javlja sa jednakom verovatnoćom gustine b−3, i tako dalje.
Intuitivno, ovo znači da se nijedna cifra, ili (konačna) kombinacija cifara, ne pojavljuje češće nego bilo koja druga, i ovo važi bilo da je broj zapisan u osnovi 10, binarnoj osnovi ili bilo kojoj drugoj. Normalan broj se može posmatrati kao beskonačan niz bacanja novčića (binarno) ili beskonačan niz bacanja kockice (osnova 6). Iako će postojati nizovi dužine 10, 100 pa i više uzastopnih pisama (binarno) ili četvorki (osnova 6), ili čak 10, 100 ili više ponavljanja nizova kao što su glava-pismo (u dva uzastopna bacanja novčića), ili 6-1 (u dva uzastopna bacanja kocke), postojaće i podjednak broj svih drugih nizova jednake dužine. Nijedna cifra ili niz nije „favorizovan“.
Iako je moguće dati opšti dokaz da su gotovo svi realni brojevi normalni (u smislu da skup izuzetaka ima meru Lebega nula), ovaj dokaz nije konstruktivan, i za vrlo mali broj konkretnih brojeva je pokazano da su normalni. Na primer, Čajtinova konstanta je normalna (i neizračunljiva). Široko je rasprostranjeno uverenje da su (izračunljivi) brojevi √2, π, and e normalni, ali dokaz još uvek nije nađen.
