Skelari (lat. Hesperiidae) su familija dnevnih leptira. Skelari su evolutivno najstariji dnevni leptiri. Familija broji oko 3.500 vrsta, rasprostranjenih po celom svetu, ali najveći broj vrsta živi u neotropskim oblastima Centralne i Južne Amerike.[2]

Skelari se svrstavaju u natfamiliju Hesperioidea, zato što se morfološki razlikuju od ostalih dnevnih leptira (Rhopalocera), koji se svrstavaju u natfamiliju Papilionoidea. Treća, relativno mala natfamilija je Hedylidae u koju spadaju moljci-leptiri, koji žive u neotropskim oblastima, a broji 35 vrsta leptira iz samo jednog roda - Macrosoma.

Karakteristike koje skelare odvajaju od ostalih leptira su snažno telo, veliko u odnosu na krila, krupne oči i razmaknuti koreni antena.

U Evropi žive 72 vrste skelara, podeljenih u 4 potfamilije. Te potfamilije su Coeliadinae, Hesperiinae, Heteropterinae i Pyrginae. Iz potfamilije Coeliadinae u Evropi je prisutna jedna vrsta, iz potfamilije Hesperiinae 18 vrsta, iѕ potfamilije Heteropterinae 6 vrsta i iz potfamilije Pyrginae 47 vrsta.

U Srbiji su prisutne 24 vrste skelara, u potfamiliji Pyrginae 17 vrsta, u potfamiliji Heteropterinae 2 vrste i u potfamiliji Hesperiinae 5 vrsta.
