Ričard Filip Luis (engl. Richard Philip Lewis; Bruklin, 29. jun 1947 — Los Anđeles, 27. februar 2024)[1] bio je američki stendap komičar i glumac.

Došao je do izražaja kao stendap komičar 1980-ih i postao poznat po svom mračnom, neurotičnom i samoprozivajućem humoru.

Kao glumac poznat je po tome što je glumio sa Džejmi Li Kertis u sitkomu Sve osim ljubavi, po ulozi princa Džona u filmu Robin Hud: Muškarci u hulahopkama i po stalnoj ulozi polufiktivnu verzije samog sebe u HBO-vom Bez oduševljavanja, molim.

Luis je rođen u Bruklinu u Njujorku, a odrastao u Inglevudu u Nju Džersiju.[2] Njegova porodica je jevrejska, ali ne posebno religiozna.[3] Njegov otac, Bil (um. 1971), bio je suvlasnim Abassador Caterers u obližnjem Tineku, Nju Džersi,[4] a njegova majka, Blanš, je bila glumica u društvenom pozorištu.[2][5][6] Luis je najmlađi od troje braće i sestara – brat mu je bio stariji od njega 6 godina, a sestra 9.[2][7][8] Ugostiteljski posao Luisovog oca zadržavao ga je dugo na poslu, a njegova braća i sestre su otišla od kuće do 1960-ih, ostavljajući Luisa kod kuće samog sa svojom majkom, sa kojom se nije slagao.[7] Luis je za Vašington post 2014. rekao da sumnja da je njegovo rođenje bila greška.[7]

Brener je pomogao Luisovoj karijeri tako što ga je upoznao sa klubovima komedije u Los Anđelesu i tako što je Luis prvi put nastupio u The Tonight Show.[9] Do sredine 1970-ih, Luis se pojavio u Večerašnjoj emisiji sa Džonijem Karsonom,[10] a nekoliko publikacija imenovalo ga za jednog od „novu klsdu“ komičara, pored sa takvim imenima kao što su Robert Klajn, Lili Tomlin, Ričard Prajor, Džordž Karlin, Endi Kaufman, Ričard Belzer i Elejn Busler.[11][12] Njegovi uticaj su Baster Kiton, Vudi Alen, Leni Brus i Ričard Prajor.[13]

Luis je poznat po mračnoj komediji, samoponižavanju i po iskrenim raspravama o svojim brojnim neurozama, kao i borbi sa alkoholizmom i zavisnošću od droga.[14] Poznat je po tome što je nosio potpuno crnu odeću i što je mahnito koračao i gestikulirao tokom svog stend-up nastupa.[14][15][16][17] U svojim ranim danima bio je poznat i po tome što je na svoje nastupe donosio zalepljene listove sa sveske, koje bi bile razasute po podu kako bi ga podsetio na prostorije šale i teme koje je želeo da pokrije tokom svog nastupa.[14]


Tokom 2000-ih, Luis je imao ponavljajuće uloge kao producent filma B u sitkomu Rude Awakening[18] i kao rabin Ričard Glas u porodičnoj dramskoj seriji Sedmo nebo.[16] Luis je takođe imao ponavljajuću ulogu u sitkomu Bez oduševljavanja, molim kao Ričard Luis, polufiktivna verzija sebe.[19] Luis je prvi put sreo zvezdu i kreatora serije, Larija Dejvida, u letnjem kampu u Kornvol na Hadsonu u Njujorku kada su imali 12 godina – Luis je tvrdio da su se tada mrzeli.[16] Dvojica komičara takođe su rođena u razmaku od tri dana u istoj bolnici.[2] Duo se ponovo sreo nešto više od decenije kasnije dok je nastupao u Njujorku i postali prijatelji.[16] Nakon što se pojavio u seriji od njene prve epizode, 2021. je potvrđeno da se Luis neće vraćati u seriju u 11. sezoni, zbog bola koji je Luis osećao u vezi sa problemima leđa i ramena i zbog višestrukih operacija.[19][17] Međutim, Luis je kasnije preko Tvitera potvrdio da ga je Dejvid ubedio da se vrati za jednu epizodu.[17] Luis je takođe rekao za GK u oktobru 2021. da se nada da će se obuzdati svoj entuzijazam vratiti još sezona kako bi ponovo mogao da igra redovniju ulogu.[17]

Magazin GK uvrstio je Luisa na svoju listu „najuticajnijih humorista 20. veka“,[20] a Luis je bio rangiran na 45. mestu Comedy Central liste „100 najboljih stendap izvođača svih vremena“ objavljenoj 2004.[21][22]

Godine 2006, The Yale Book of Quotations uključila je unos za izraz „______ iz pakla" (kao u "noć iz pakla", "datum iz pakla" itd.), koji je pripisan Luisu.[23]

Luis je upoznao Džojs Lapinski 1998. na zabavi povodom izdavanje albuma Ringo Star, dok je Lapinski radila u muzičkom izdavaštvu.[24] Par je bio veren 2004. i venčao se sledeće godine.[24]

Diskusije o Luisovoj borbi sa anksioznošću i depresijom, kao i o njegovim višestrukim terapijskim sesijama, bile su deo njegove komedije.[15] Takođe je u intervjuima izjavio da pati od poremećaja u ishrani zbog dismorfofobije.[16][15]

Luis je otvoreno govorio o svom oporavku od zloupotrebe alkohola i droga, budući da je bio korisnik i kokaina i metafmetamina .[16] Njegove zavisnosti su se pogoršale tokom 1990-ih, što je navelo Luisa da prestane da izvodi stend-ap od 1991. do 1994.[15] U intervjuu za Santa Maria Tajms iz 1995. godine, Luis je govorio o tome kako ga je smrt Džona Kendija 1994. navela da razmisli o svom životu i karijeri.[25] Njih dvoje su zajedno glumili u Kendinom poslednjem filmu, komediji sa vestern tematikom Wagons East.[25] U kasnijim intervjuima, Luis je izjavio da se otreznio 1994. godine nakon što je završio u bolnici za hitnu pomoć zbog predoziranja kokainom.[6][15]

Luis se borio sa zdravstvenim problemima koji su rezultirali višestrukim operacijama. His therapist termed his condition a kind of impotency--pain buried in booze, drugs and the hunt for orgasms. Sort of like Elvis, only without the fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Lewis eventually found his rock bottom with a cocaine binge, he says.”
