Onychodectes (Оникодектес — „канџа која гризе”) је изумрли род плаценталних сисара из изумрле породице Onychodectidae унутар изумрлог реда Taeniodonta, који је у периоду раног палеоцена настањивао подручје Сјеверне Америке.^[4]^[5]^[6]^[7]^[8]

Врста Onychodectes tisonensis је достизала величину обичког опосума.^[8] Осјећај мириса је био јако развијен код ове врсте сисара.^[10]^[11] Ова врста се кретала плантиградно и била је способна да се пење по дрвећу.^[8]

Понашање и палеоекологија[уреди | уреди извор]

Врста Onychodectes tisonensis је била полуфосоријални копнени сваштојед.^[8] Хранила се већински са храном биљног поријекла (са тврдим биљкама, коријењем и кртолама), али и са храном животињског поријекла (са малим сисарима, малим птицама и инсектима).^[8]

Род Onychodectes је оригинално описан као представник породице Conoryctidae,^[6]^[7]^[8] али је у каснијој класификацији препознат као засебан представник реда Taeniodonta.^[12]^[13]^[14]^[15]
