Sinkler Luis (engl. Sinclair Lewis; 7. februar 1885 — 10. januar 1951), bio je američki književnik i Nobelovac.
Rođen je 1885, imao je život ispunjen raznovrsnim iskustvima, korisnim za stvaranje široke vizije američkog društva, čiju će snažnu sliku dati u svojim romanima. Tako je on, recimo, prekinuo studije na univerzitetu Jejl, i otišao da radi na Panamskom kanalu. A onda se vratio na Jejl i diplomirao, 1908. Narednih godina je puno putovao po Americi, radeći kao izveštač mnogih listova i agencija. U početku, dok još nije našao svoj pravi put, pisao je bulevarsku prozu, priče i romane, sve dok 1920. nije objavio roman „Glavna ulica” i postigao ogroman uspeh. Za kratko vreme bilo je rasprodato pola miliona primeraka, a roman je preveden na bezmalo sve evropske jezike.
Usledili su potom romani:„Kraljevska krv”,„Bebit”, „Elmer Gantri”, „Čovek koji je poznavao Kulidža”, „Dodsvort”, „Martin Arousmit”, „Ana Vikers”, „Umetničko delo”, „To je ovde nemoguće”.[1][2] Njima je Luis izbio u red velikih realističkih pisaca savremene Amerike, s podjednakim poznavanjem opisujući život različitih slojeva i vrlo različitih junaka.[3] Snažna satirička, kritička nota izazivala je često protivrečne reakcije javnosti. Od pohvala kritike i slobodoumnih intelektualaca – do poziva na bojkot, linč, hapšenje! Sinkler Luis je jedan od najslavnijih pisaca takozvane izgubljene generacije. Nobelovu nagradu za književnost dobio je 1930. godine.[4] Preminuo je 1951.[5]
