Septembar je deveti mesec u godini i ima 30 dana. Početak meseca po julijanskom kalendaru počinje 14. dana gregorijanskog kalendara. Po Crkvenom računanju ciklusa vremena je prvi mesec.
Na severnoj hemisferi početak meteorološke jeseni je 1. septembra. Na južnoj hemisferi početak meteorološkog proleća je 1. septembra.[1]
Septembar označava početak crkvene godine u istočnoj pravoslavnoj crkvi. To je početak školske godine u mnogim zemljama severne hemisfere, u kojoj se deca vraćaju u školu posle letnjeg raspusta, ponekad i prvog dana u mesecu.
Septembar (od latinskog septem, „sedam“) je prvobitno bio sedmi od deset meseci u najstarijem poznatom rimskom kalendaru, kalendaru Romula oko 750. p. n. e., sa martom (lat. Martius) kao prvim mesecom u godini do možda čak 451. p. n. e.[2] Nakon kalendarske reforme koja je početkom godine dodala januar i februar, septembar je postao deveti mesec, ali je zadržao ime. Imao je 29 dana do Julijanske reforme, koja je dodala dan.
Septembarski događaji
[uredi | uredi izvor]Stare rimske svetkovine za septembar uključuju Ludi Romani, koji se prvobitno slavio od 12. do 14. septembra, a kasnije je produžen do 5. septembra do 19. septembra. U 1. veku pre nove ere, dodat je dodatni dan u čast oboženog Julija Cezara 4. septembra. Epulum Jovis je održan 13. septembra. Ludi Triumfales održan je od 18. do 22. septembra. Septimonijum se slavio u septembru, a po kasnijim kalendarima 11. decembra. Ovi datumi ne odgovaraju savremenom gregorijanskom kalendaru.
Septembar je u kalendaru Karla Velikog nazvan „mesec žetve“. Septembar delom odgovara Fruktidoru, a delom Vendemjeru Prve francuske republike. Septembar se u Švajcarskoj naziva Herbstmonat, mesec žetve. Anglosaksonci su mesec zvali Gerstmonath, mesec ječma, po usevu koji se tada obično žanje.[3]
Britansko carstvo je 1752. usvojilo gregorijanski kalendar. U Britanskoj imperiji te godine drugom septembru je odmah sledio 14. septembar.
Na Usenetu se kaže da se septembar 1993. (Večni septembar) nikada nije završio.
Septembar u astronomiji i astrologiji
[uredi | uredi izvor]Septembarska ravnodnevica se javlja u ovom mesecu, a oko nje se organizuju određene svetkovine. To je jesenja ravnodnevica na severnoj hemisferi, a prolećna ravnodnevica na južnoj hemisferi. Datumi mogu varirati od 21. septembra do 24. septembra (u UTC).
Septembar je uglavnom u šestom mesecu astrološkog kalendara (i prvi deo sedmog), koji počinje krajem marta/Marsa/Ovna.

Poreklo reči ili etimologija
[uredi | uredi izvor]Septembar je dobio ime od latinskog (September). Mesec je nazvan po “septem“ (sedmi mesec) rimskog kalendara.
Septembar se kod Srba, kao i kod nekih slovenskih naroda naziva još i MIHOLjSKI MESEC, RUJEN i GROZDOBER, kao i u starosrpskom. Preko crkve su u srpski narod ušli latinski nazivi za mesece, a njihovi glasovni likovi pokazuju da su prošli kroz grčko posredstvo.[18] Kod Čeha ZARŽI, a kod Slovenaca i KIMAVEC. Kod Hrvata se naziva RUJAN, slično staroslovenskom i srpskom RUJEN. Na staroruskom VERASENj, beloruskom VERASENj, ukrajinskom VERESENЬ slično poljskom VŽESIENЬ.
