Eshatologija
Eshatologija (grč. ἔσχατον-grč. λόγος) je sistem religioznih učenja i predstava o kraju sveta,[1] iskupljenju i zagrobnom životu, o sudbini kosmosa i svega što postoji.[2]
To je poimanje suštinske prirode postojanja u terminima njegovog cilja ili krajnje svrhe. Eshatologija predstavlja jedan od elemenata u praktično svim religijskim i filozofskim sistemima mišljenja. U isto vreme, ovaj pojam sadrži i izvesnu dvosmislenost: on se može odnositi na oblast apsolutnog (filozofsku „osnovu egzistencije") ili na događaje koji ukazuju na cilj istorijskog procesa. U prvom slučaju, eshatologija se iskazuje kao niz reinkarnacija koje svoj vrhunac dostižu utapanjem u samo biće (hinduizam).
U drugom slučaju, eshatologija je povezana s jednim istorijskim procesom koji obuhvata čovečanstvo ili čak ceo stvoreni svet (judaizam i hrišćanstvo). Osnovne teme u jevrejskoj i hrišćanskoj eshatologiji su smrt, vaskrsenje, strašni sud, raj i pakao, itd. Eshatologiju teološki treba razlikovati od "apokalipticizma" koji se pojavljuje kroz euforično verovanje da su upravo sada i ovde "poslednja vremena". Eshatologiju, takođe, treba razlikovati od prognoziranja budućnosti zasnovanog na zakonima naučne uzročnosti. Takvim prognozama se bavi futurologija.

Višnuitska tradicija povezuje savremenu hinduističku eshatologiju sa figurom Kalkija, desetog i poslednjeg avatara Višnua. Mnogi hindusi veruju da će se pre nego što se doba približi kraju, Kalki reinkarnirati u Šivu i istovremeno rastvoriti i regenerisati univerzum. Nasuprot tome, šivisti drže stav da Šiva neprestano uništava i stvara svet.[3]
U hinduističkoj eshatologiji vreme je ciklično i sastoji se od kalpi. Svaki traje 4,1–8,2 milijarde godina, što je period od jednog punog dana i noći za Bramu, koji će biti živ 311 triliona, 40 milijardi godina. Unutar kalpe postoje periodi stvaranja, očuvanja i opadanja. Posle ovog većeg ciklusa, celokupna kreacija će se skupiti u singularitet, a zatim će se ponovo proširiti iz te jedne tačke, kako se doba nastavljaju u religioznom fraktalnom obrascu.[4]
U okviru sadašnje kalpe postoje četiri epohe koje obuhvataju ciklus. One napreduju od početka potpune čistoće do spuštanja u totalnu pokvarenost. Poslednje od četiri doba je Kali Juga (za koje većina Hindusa veruje da je sadašnje vreme), koje karakterišu svađa, licemerje, bezbožnost, nasilje i propadanje. Četiri stuba darme biće svedena na jedno, a istina je sve što ostaje.[5]

U budizmu ne postoji klasičan opis početka ili kraja;[6] Masao Abe ovo pripisuje odsustvu Boga.[7]
Istorija je ugrađena u kontinuirani proces samsare ili „bespočetne i beskonačne cikluse rađanja-smrti-ponovnog rađanja“.[8] Budisti veruju da postoji kraj stvarima, ali on nije konačan, jer se moraju ponovo roditi. Međutim, pisci mahajanskih budističkih spisa uspostavljaju specifičan izveštaj o poslednjem vremenu u budističkoj tradiciji: ovo opisuje povratak Majtreja Bude, koji bi doneo kraj sveta.[9] Ovo predstavlja jednu od dve glavne grane budističke eshatologije, a druga je Propoved sedam Sunaca. Završno vreme u budizmu takođe može uključivati kulturnu eshatologiju koja pokriva „konačne stvari“, što uključuje ideju da će se i Šakjamuni Budina darma takođe završiti.[10]
